About the AED
The Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is a computerized medical device that can give an electric shock on a patient when the person goes into cardiac arrest.
- An AED checks a person’s heart rhythm
- It analyses and recognizes a rhythm that would benefit from a shock
- It advises the rescuer when a shock is needed.
- The AED uses voice prompts, lights and text messages letting the rescuer know of the steps to take
- AEDs are easy and safe to operate and are designed to be used by laypersons who ideally should have received AED training.
